Trail miles, three eights & one scene-stealing donkey
It was a big week for the mares: a good cause, a first for Essie, and a new friend with very long ears.
Lacey plays poker
Jay and Lacey joined friends at the Sierra Nevada Hounds poker ride, raising funds for the volunteer firefighters who helped save our bacon—and our homes—during this summer’s wildfires. We met wonderful new friends, equine and otherwise. Our hand of three eights did not come close to winning, but the ride was a jackpot.

Our rookie hits the trail
Essie went on her very first trail ride! Jay and Lacey ponied her while our friend Yulia rode Bunny and captured the adventure on video. Lacey made it clear who was in charge and was patient with the rookie—well, mostly. Essie handled the outing beautifully, with no mishaps, and Yulia and Bunny made a great team.
First trail ride: checked off. Confidence: growing by the mile.
Donkey steals the show
On another outing, Jay and Lacey headed out with Kreg and his wife, Cindy, and met their equine friends—especially one gregarious, entertaining donkey. Lacey made the introduction, but the donkey apparently had other ideas about who the star of the day would be.

A little more ranch life
Come along for Jay and Lacey’s drone ride, then spend a few minutes with the everyday rhythm of the ranch.
